FRA Collects Over 1 Million 50KG Bags Of Maize From Contracted Early Maize Farmers!!

The Food Reserve Agency-FRA- has so far collected a total of One Million Three Hundred and Eighty-Seven thousand by 50-kilogram bags of maize from the 55 commercial farmers contracted to produce early maize to replenish the national strategic food reserves.

According to FRA Public Relations Coordinator John Chipandwe, the agency is offloading some of the maize to areas that were adversely affected by the drought while also restocking the strategic reserves to safeguard national food security.

Mr. Chipandwe has further disclosed that one of the 55 commercial farmers contracted to supply early maize, ZAMBEEF, has so far delivered in excess of 16,000 metric tons of maize out of its contract target of 20,000 metric tons of non-GMO white maize.

Speaking when ZAMBEEF visited the FRA Bwana Mukubwa storage facility, which is one of the facility the company is delivering maize to, Mr. Chipandwe has called on small scale farmers across Zambia, to only sale their excess produce to the FRA at k330 per 50-kilogram bag of maize after securing their household food security.

And ZAMBEEF Corporate Affairs Manager Ezekiel Sekele has disclosed that the commercial farmer has planted around 800 hectares and 130 hectares of Wynter maize at its Chiawa and Mpongwe farms respectively, in addition to the over 326, 300 by 50-kilogram bags of the grain already delivered to FRA out of the contracted 400,000 bags of non-GMO white maize.
