Hichilema Insists on being called ‘Mr. President’ or ‘HH’ despite Doctorate

President Hakainde Hichilema has reiterated his preference to be addressed as ‘Mr. President’ or ‘HH’, despite being awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Heriot-Watt University Business School in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Speaking to Zambians living in the United Kingdom at Oxford University, President Hichilema emphasised the importance of unity and collaboration in tackling Zambia’s challenges.

The President downplayed the significance of titles and honours, urging Zambians in the diaspora to work together with the government to promote trade and investment in Zambia.

“I want you to join HH to market our country. You can call me HH, it doesn’t really matter the flamboyance and the flowers, the camouflage, the peacock dancing around, just call me HH,” President Hichilema stated.

He stressed the role of Zambians abroad as “marketing investment officers” for the country, highlighting the need to attract international trade and investment to stimulate economic growth.

President Hichilema acknowledged the difficulties currently faced by Zambians, including high prices of essential goods and services, but expressed optimism about the country’s future.

“We need to explain these issues to our citizens back home because they are the ones who decide who runs the country. Sometimes when they feel the pain of the price of mealie meal, fuel, load shedding, they start thinking it’s better to be children of Israel to go back to Egypt,” he said.

He assured that in two years, Zambia will be in a better position, indicating that the government’s efforts will lead to sustainable growth and improvement in the quality of life for its citizens.
