ZESCO Commissions New Transmission Line!! In A Heist To Sustain The Overload On The Power Grid Caused By Increased Mining Activities In The Northern Region Of Zambia, ZESCO Has Commissioned A 330KV Transmission Kabwe – Pensulo Line In Serenje Central Province. The New Transmission Line Connecting The Kabwe Step Down Substation To Pensulo Substation Will Transmission Power To Muchinga, Luapula, Northern, Eastern And Central Provinces. Site Manager Masoka Daka Said The Project Is Worth US$134 Million And Is Part Of The High Voltage Alternating Current Transmission Line Under The Zambia, Tanzania – Kenya Interconnector Power System Which Will link the Eastern African Power Pool (EAPP) With The Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) That Is Yet To Be Completed In 2 Years. This Project According To Mr Masoka, This Project Will Connect To The Eastern Africa Power Pool As To Access energy From The Region When Having A Dry Spell And Exporting When In Excess. Will This New Power Line Put A Stop Or Reduce On Load Shedding? The 300KV Will Not Reduce On Load Shedding As The Project Is Embarked For Construction In Two Years For Cross-border Connections Which Will Ease The Pressure Of Power Supply In The Long Run. However, Site Manager Masoka Daka Said Reduced Load Shedding Will Only Happen When ZESCO Links Kasama To Nakonde, As A Means Of Importing Power From Tanzania. Zambia Is Currently In Short Of 750 megawatts, The Link Between Zambia And Tanzania Will See ZESCO Importing About 500 Megawatts, A Development Which Will Have A Direct Reduction On Load Shedding. He Said ZESCO Will Also Consider Setting Up Solar Plants In Order To Reduce Hours Of Load Shedding.
